Do you identify as a ‘business alchemist’?

All members of the Alchemists Forum identify as ‘Business Alchemists’, but what does this mean? Let’s start by outlining exactly what our chair Alan Branagh, defines as a business alchemist:

"A business alchemist is an individual who possesses a transformative growth mindset and exhibits characteristics of adaptability, creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness within the business world. They embrace change as an opportunity and focus on creating value for customers, stakeholders, and society. Business alchemists actively shape their own destinies, finding ways to transform challenges into opportunities by collaborating with others to turning good into greater and achieving extraordinary success."

As our name suggests, the Alchemists Forum is comprised of a group of business alchemists who have come together from many different industries. As a result of their varying professions, the ‘why’ or purpose of individuals who identify as business alchemists could vary, but generally, we have found that they aim to bring about transformative change and create value within the business world.

Below we have outlined the key ‘purposes’ of our business alchemists.

Innovation & Inspiration

Business alchemists are driven by a desire to innovate and introduce new ideas, products, or services that disrupt traditional markets and drive growth.

They could aim to inspire others by demonstrating that unconventional approaches can lead to success, motivating individuals and organizations to think differently.

Adaptation & Transformation

Business alchemists focus on helping businesses adapt to changing environments, whether it's technological advancements, shifting consumer preferences, or economic fluctuations.

Many then take this one step further with transformation. Similar to historical alchemists' goal of transforming base materials into valuable substances, business alchemists focus on transforming struggling or stagnant businesses into thriving ones.

Positive Impact through Problem Solving

Many business alchemists’ purpose revolves around creating positive impacts not only on profits but also on communities, employees, and the broader society through sustainable and ethical practices.

To do this, many business alchemists see themselves as problem solvers. A unique trait of a business alchemists is to use their unique perspective to find solutions to complex challenges that others might overlook in order to create positive impact.

Fulfilment

The final ‘purpose’ or ‘why’ that is reflected through many of our business alchemists is the seeking of personal fulfilment. This is achieved by aligning their work with their values and passions, creating a sense of purpose beyond just financial gain.

Ultimately, the ‘why’ of business alchemists is likely to be a combination of personal aspirations, a desire to effect meaningful change, and a willingness to challenge conventional norms in pursuit of successful and fulfilling business endeavours.

Our groups are always expanding and we love to hear from other like-minded business alchemists. If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Alchemists Forum contact us here.
